Commentary on Poem 3

a)The theme that I explored in the poem
The theme that I am exploring is how rich people treat people lowly than them.Nowadays, rich people are full of themselves thinking that they are everything. Thus, they treat people that are poorly badly, thinking that they are beggars.

b)How I developed the theme in the poem
In the story,Eggs. The poor little child and her mother were treated like beggars by the First Aunt and her kids,Molly and Beng Beng.Even the child's mother had believed in the fact that they were beggars and said to her child that since they were beggars, they must let First Aunt ,Molly and Beng Beng do whatever they like to them. The mother even did several things to make the child understand that she is a beggar and cannot afford to have anything she want.

c)The effects that I would like to achieve in the poem to impact my readers and how I went about doing it
The effects I would like to achieve is to change rich people's thinking of poor people.Rich people should instead feel pity for those poorer people and help them by showing care and concern, not by calling them beggars. They should not think that they are in a much higher rank than those poorer people, because,at the end of the day, they are ultimately still human beings, only with lesser money.

d)The extent to which I think I have been successful
I tried to list out all the bad things that happen to the child so that people would feel sorry for her and her mother for being so poor.I tried to make First Aunt,Molly and Beng Beng sound like they were some evil rich people. Then, readers reading this would treat poorer people better.

Poem 3-From Little Ironies,Eggs.

The confused little child
could not understand
why Molly and Beng Beng had eggs
and she can't

Her mum would only beat her
if she wanted one
"We are beggars."she would say
and so she had none

Yet once her mother bought six eggs for her
and told her to finish them all,
but soon she began to feel sick
and got beaten when she couldn't eat anymore

Then, she got a doll but her mother threw it away
although it was her mother who bought it
The little child got beaten as her mother screamed
"You and dolls do not fit!"

The frightened little child was left wondering,
why her mother had done that
Finally,the puzzled girl understood
Eggs.They always meant something bad.

Poem2-Individual poem

I,a taxi driver,
greet passengers nicely,
but what do I get in return?
Not even a smile for me.

They don't even say thank you,
when I carry their luggage to the boot.
I don't even get a single 'sorry'
and I have to tolerate people with bad mood.

I know how to travel from place to place
and I drive people here and there.
I sit on my seat for hours and hours
when I attend to people from anywhere

They think that I'm not important,
They just pay and walk away,
but the sad thing is that,
this happen everyday.

Poem 1-Group Poem

Without a home

with nowhere to go
Stuck on the streets
A wandering soul

Left all alone
with nowhere to run
Just waiting for the long day to be done

Dirty Stares from people everyday
Won't say it isn't disturbing
But this isn't one bit deserving

The government favors
the ones who have a home
not us homeless people,oh no

We are looked down by society
as useless and unwanted
No one understands
they never do

Though in the back of my mind
I always dream
for a permanent home soon.
